About Sigma Lab Consulting

Mission

We help life-science organizations work better together by connecting people, systems, and decisions so progress accelerates.

Philosophy & Approach

Sigma Lab Consulting was built on a simple idea: clarity creates momentum. Our work centers on diagnosing friction, simplifying workflows, and driving adoption so improvements last.

We use structured, evidence-based assessments to reveal where complexity hides. Each diagnostic links people, processes, and technology, helping teams uncover what’s slowing them down and where to focus first. We don’t replace your systems, we help you see them clearly and design better ways to work every day.

Every project begins with the same question: “What’s actually holding us back?” We help teams pause long enough to define the problem, then design solutions that fit their reality — not someone else’s template. When clarity comes first, adoption follows naturally because people can finally see how their work connects.

Our Framework: The Biopharma Nexus (BPN)

The Biopharma Nexus is the network of relationships that holds an organization together and keeps it moving forward.

It strengthens five core connections:

When these align, organizations gain clarity, speed, and resilience. When they don’t, operations stall, teams lose focus, and valuable insights get lost. Every assessment we design strengthens one or more of these connections, helping teams move from complexity to clarity and turn alignment into action.

Want to go deeper? Explore how these patterns show up across biopharma in our book Predictably Broken — and how clarity by design can fix them.

How We Work

We help life-science organizations simplify how work gets done so teams can make better decisions and move faster with confidence.

Most organizations jump straight to execution, taking action before direction. It’s natural: when things feel stuck, building something new feels like progress. But without clarity, even good execution amplifies confusion.

We help teams pause long enough to see what’s really slowing them down and think creatively about how work could flow better. Too often, legacy tools and habits limit how teams operate. We help them reimagine workflows, introduce modern, lightweight platforms, and make changes that last.

Our role doesn’t end at diagnosis. We design solutions and champion implementation — helping teams configure systems, clarify ownership, and sustain progress long after the initial fix. Everyone plays a part. Cross-functional teams bring context; we bring clarity and design perspective, helping them work in sync so progress feels coordinated, not chaotic.

Our goal isn’t to do more work, it’s to help you do the right work. We create a shared understanding that connects strategy, people, and execution, turning effort into results.

Our Team

Lawrence Wong | Co-founder
MBA, LSSGB

I help life-science organizations bridge the gap between capital projects and daily operations, focusing on simplifying how facilities and equipment come online so teams can sustain reliability, compliance, and performance long after startup. Before co-founding Sigma Lab Consulting, I worked with leading biopharma organizations including Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Sanofi, gaining experience across asset lifecycle strategy, equipment onboarding, CMMS integration, and workflow optimization in research, clinical, and manufacturing environments. At SLC, I combine my background in engineering with a design-driven approach to help clients see where work gets stuck, reimagine how it flows, and implement systems that fit the way teams actually operate. I hold an MBA in Health Sector Management from Boston University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. I also host Lean by Design, a podcast exploring how life-science teams can align people, process, and technology to move faster with confidence.

Oscar Gonzalez | Co-founder
MBA, MS, LSSBB

I help biopharma and biotech organizations fix the operational breakdowns that slow progress and exhaust teams. As co-founder of Sigma Lab Consulting, I bring over 15 years of experience spanning science, strategy, and operations — helping leaders turn complexity into clarity and build systems that actually work. Before co-founding SLC, I held roles at Karyopharm Therapeutics and LifeMine Therapeutics, leading efforts across R&D and Clinical Operations. Since starting our firm, I’ve collaborated with organizations including Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, Lila Sciences, and Pioneering Medicines to improve governance, reporting, and workflow transparency so teams can make faster, data-driven decisions. I hold an MBA in Strategy and an MS in Bioimaging from Boston University, and a BS in Biology from Longwood University. I also host Lean by Design and write The Candid Consultant on Substack, where I share candid perspectives on leadership and operational excellence in biopharma.
